Tomato Thyme

February is the time to start your tomato seeds. They will be ready to put into the garden in about five weeks. We had a day off during this rainy weather, so after a morning shopping at thrift stores looking for old garden books,( didn't find any, but did find a first edition sunset cook book and a great limoges plate), we started the first batch of tomato seeds. Be sure to label the Jump Start pellets. We are trying a tooth pick and label tape, let you know how it holds up.

We started out using the Minny Seed Master to place two seeds in a pellet. Well, after dropping seeds all over the tray, we went back to that tried and true finger method. Thirteen different tomato varieties were planted, along with two peppers and two flowers, we had empty pellets.

They are on the heat mat and ready to sprout in a few days. A heat mat is a must. They cost a bit but growing great tasting tomatoes........ PRICELESS.

As the plants germinate we will tell you of our new varieties which all came from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.

So get your butt off that couch and start some tomato seeds if you live in Central Ca. If you live in a colder climate, start ordering your seeds.
