A Sign of Spring

This little hummer had fallen out his nest a few days ago. We heard him chirping and saw that his mom was feeding him from the Earth Box that he fell into. The next day he was flying short distances and now he seems to just want to hang around this area and sit on the topiary forms. Soon we know he will leave us, but for now we are enjoying his company and he has been the subject of many photos and even a little movie taken by employees and customers. I guess we should have named him, but I doubt we will be able to recognize him in the future. There are many hummingbirds born and living in our nursery eating from the flowers and entertaining us all with their speed and grace. The most exciting thing about this little guy was that I actually got him to sit on my finger twice!

Here is a little combination that I put together for a pot on our deck. I am really liking how the bright greens and yellows brighten up our deck. What you don't see in this picture are a few Dephiniums and a Veronica that haven't bloomed yet, that may be another picture for a future post...maybe a Green Thumb Sunday!

What a great visitor to have. I love birds and invite them into my garden with my bird friendly plants. Nice planter, I'll be back!

That would be so exciting to have a hummingbird sit on your finger. Lucky you! I spent hours in front of the window last year, fascinated by their antics. I can't wait for them to return.
